Q: What is your name and where do you live?
A: Pat Grasso, Schenectady, NY
Q: What is your age?
A: 18
Q: What is your occupation?
A: Student
Q: How long have you been participating in triathlons?
A: 6 Years.
Q: How long have you been coached by Kevin Crossman?
A: 3 Months.
Q: What is your favorite race, and why?
A: Lake George Triathlon - I love the area and I always have a good race there. Oh, and the cute girls at the aid stations.
Q: What is your favorite piece of triathlon equipment?
A: My tri bike. I just got a Guru Ventus and can't wait to race it. It was a good deal for being completely customized and so well made.
Q: What are some of your career highlights as an athlete (not necessarily triathlon)?
A: First ˝ IM finish at age 15, 3 top ten finishes in Section 2 swimming senior year, taking down a 15 year old relay school record in swimming, 2 age group
wins at Lake George Tri two consecutive years, 7th place in 3000m steeplechase in Section 2 track & field, and winning the Doc O'Rielly road race.
Q: What are your triathlon goals for the 2008 season?
A: 1 - Finish Ironman Lake Placid 2 - Win age group at Mooseman
Q: What is your long-term goal in the sport of triathlon?
A: Compete at the collegiate level and then iron distance after that.
Q: What are 3 foods someone would always find in your refrigerator/cupboards?
A: Roast Beef, Cranberry Juice, and Bagels
Q: Do you specialize in a particular triathlon distance? If so, why that distance?
A: I would have to say Olympic distance because it's not short enough to hold your breath through, but also not long enough to really have to worry about nutrition, and the swim actually matters. It's a fast, gutsy race.
Q: What advice would you give to a 'newbie' in the
sport?
A: Don't forget to enjoy every minute of the sport, even when it hurts because it's better than sitting in class. Train in every kind of weather because you don't want to be "that guy" who doesn't show up to a race because it's raining. Finally, don't complain after a bad race…no one cares.
Q: Do you have any secret training tips? (Not really secret if you share, huh?)
A: Try to take naps between training sessions, it makes the second one better. Never workout without eating, raisins are the best pre workout snack.
Q: Please list your favorite workout:
A: Swimming- 5x100 breast on 3:00 @ 90%, off blocks Cycling- Long rides, I love the freedom and the ability to cover serious distance Running- The ice cream run (a cross country team favorite) Eat a pint of ice cream, and then run 9+ miles tempo, last one to throw up wins.
Q: Any thoughts you want to share?
A: Don’t take life too seriously because there is no way you can come out of it alive.
